Today we traveled to Winterville to visit with another daughter and her family. Unless you want to go south through Georgia or north through Virginia, the route from Kodak to Winterville, doesn’t leave many options as US 70 joins I 40 most of the way through the Pigeon River Gorge in the Great Smokey Mountains along the Tennessee/North Carolina border. You may recall the damage of Hurricane Helene in 2024 that wiped out the eastbound lanes of I 40. The devastation was horrific and, 2 years later, repairs are still underway.

Traffic through the construction area is backed up for miles and one can expect at least an hour delay. (More quality time with my bride.)

After passing through the gorge, the remaining trip to Winterville was uneventful and we finally arrived, exhausted and saddle sore, and ready for a libation and a few days R&R with family and friends.
