It was a beautiful morning this morning and we got off to an early start (for us) at about 10 AM. It’s only about an hour’s drive from Strathalbyn to Victor Harbor and we arrived about 11only to find that the bank (which was our destination) was not open on Saturdays. We spent the day exploring Victor Harbor which is a delightful, picturesque town on the coast of the Bass Strait off the Southern Ocean. We went first to the Whaling Museum that presents the history of the whaling industry which put Victor Harbor on the map. It’s a fascinating history, well presented by the museum with lots of artifacts from earlier times. It also includes several aboriginal legends dealing with whales and life by the sea in general.
After the museum, we had a light lunch then went to the local library to get on the internet and catch up with mail. As it turned out, the library was only open for another hour after we left; but they gave us library cards that will enable access to the internet at any library in South Australia. Also, with our new library account we can access the internet via their wifi that extends outside the library and operates 24/7. In addition, the library was having a book sale so we donated a couple of the books we had finished and purchased a few from the sale. (A whopping A$1.50 for three books.)
After the library, we went searching for a campground for the night. We found a lovely campground on the outskirts of town and pitched our tent, inflated our air mattress and got it ready for the night. We then went grocery shopping and came back to work on our blog. As I was behind a number of days and way behind on photo selection and editing, we spent most of the remaining daylight working on the blog. Then came dinner, story time and bed. Tomorrow, the forecast is for rain and we’re not sure what we’ll be up to, but we’ll find out when tomorrow gets here.
