Day 7, Jul 24: Lubbock, TX to Gallup, NM

We have a little extra time, so we decided that, rather than arrive at a camp site late in the evening, we would motel it again close enough that we can reach our destination early in the afternoon. The route we’ll be taking doesn’t have a lot of accommodations, so we chose Gallup for our intermediate stop. Next stop will be Jacob Lake which is just north of the Grand Canyon.

It was a pleasant drive mostly along US 84 which doesn’t have a lot of traffic. The only problem is that the road is very rough in some places which causes a lot of noise that interferes with our audio book. Occasionally we have to rewind and replay parts of it. (Life is really hard.) But for a single, short-lived thunderstorm the weather was great. The temperature hovered around 85 and the humidity was very low making it relatively comfortable.

We found our motel in Gallup with another hour to spare (crossing into mountain daylight time) and settled in early to do some laundry and catch up on the blog. Next door is a small Mexican restaurant and since we haven’t done Mexican for a long time, we’ll go over and indulge ourselves.
