Europe: Days 62 63 (June 5, 6)

We are happy to report that Madrid was WONDERFUL! We allowed 2 days for sightseeing. We could have easily spent 2 days in the Prado Art Museum! The art was wonderful!! We art by Rafael, Rubens, Tiziano (Titian), Greco, Goya, and Tintoretto just to name a few. There was a temporary exhibit with works by Jheronimus Bosch a famous painter from the mid 1400s to early 1500s. His themes were mainly religious and moral but he had some surrealist details before the age of surrealism. In addition to all the paintings there were some great sculptures.

Afterwards, we toured the Naval History Museum which has a wonderful collection of paintings, stamps, weapons, uniforms, badges and insignia, ship models, and navigation and scientific instruments dating from the early Catholic monarchs to the present. I found the section on navigation truly fascinating. How people manage to pinpoint their location just by looking at the sun, moon and stars with nothing but water around them (and no GPS) is truly a marvelous achievement.

More, later.
