After a very comfortable night at The Adelaide Inn, we continued on our journey. The weather gods shined upon us – it was a beautiful sunny morning with cool temperatures. Our first stop was the Bella Luna Winery. Since I will be condemned to mostly interstates to San Diego, I took all back roads to get the winery. Of course we passed some wonderful vineyards and also some cattle ranches. It was a nice scenic drive and also great to see that the area economy wasn’t only dependent on the wine industry. 

We had been to Bella Luna Winery last year and the wine and setting are lovely. It’s a family owned winery which was founded by two childhood friends. The daughter of one of the co-founders gave a wonderful description of the wines and some beginning background of the winery as well as some of the process of transforming the grapes into award winning wines. Both of the founders are Vietnam veterans. The winery supports the Tailhook Education Foundation including donating a percentage of the price of every bottle of Fighter Pilot Red and Rotor Head Red blends. Of course we purchased them and some other wine as well. 

Alas, after soaking up the beauty of the winery and Peggy enjoying  the wine tasting (I was the designated driver), it was time to head south. We did enjoy some views of the Pacific Ocean as we drove down CA 101 and parts of the El Camino Real. Without too many traffic delays, we arrived safely at our daughter’s home.

We’ll be here in San Diego visiting with 2 of our daughters for about the next 10 days so there won’t be much to post about.
