Day 13, Friday September 4, 2026, Roseville, CA, – Paso Robles, CA

Well, as I always say, the first step in any plan is to plan to change the plan. We were hoping to visit with friends in the Sacramento and Chico areas. Because of health issues with both of them, we changed our itinerary and headed to wine country in Paso Robles.

We had a reasonably pleasant drive today with views of orchards and vineyards. Upon arriving in Paso Robles we found a Starbucks to recharge my battery. While we were using our phones to explore lodging options for the night (Friday of Labor Day Weekend), Peggy noticed a vacancy sign at The Adelaide Inn across the street. We decided to check it out. It is a delightful, family owned motel. The rooms are spacious, and the grounds are lovely with a pool, playground for kids, and a grassy area with comfy tables and chairs. Because of the holiday weekend, it was a little pricey, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. We relaxed in the shade of a tree and read our story before going to dinner.

The Adelaide Inn is conveniently located to downtown with wine tasting rooms, craft beers, and other activities that explore the local history. It is walking distance to some good restaurants which is a bonus for us after spending 6+ hours in the car. Since this detour to Paso Robles was an unplanned bonus and it’s a busy holiday weekend, we will only stay the 1 night, but we will return. It’s wonderful wine country and we look forward to exploring the area at a more leisurely pace in the future. We arrived in town too late to go to any of the wineries, but we will visit the Bella Luna winery tomorrow. We had visited this winery last year and had a wonderful time there.

Best,
Wayne &  Peggy
